Artist of the day: Bruce Nye the Elvis Guy
In your honor, today we're paying tribute to a man who plays tribute to you. Bruce Nye the Elvis Guy moved to Tampa Bay from Maine a few years ago, and has since filled his time impersonating the King at restaurants, bars and fairs. He does about 200 shows a year around Florida and in New England, and for eight years, he's been a regular at Gators Cafe and Saloon in Treasure Island. (Click here to see him in action.) His favorite song to perform: The Wonder Of You.
Nye (above, performing at a sold-out Elvis tribute show at the Largo Cultural Center in January 2006) will be performing on the east coast of Florida for the King's birthday this weekend. But you can see him back at Gators every Tuesday, including Jan. 12. Click here for other performance times. And in November, he'll be performing aboard a weeklong Carnival cruise.
Also of note: Bruce Nye is also sometimes Bruce Nye the Orbison Guy. So when Roy Orbison's ghost turns 75 on April 23, 2011, we'll revisit him.
