Artist of the day: Burning Tree
Dude ... it's 4/20. And what better way to honor this blessed day than by celebrating a band called Burning Tree.
The Sublime-like St. Pete reggae-rockers "strive to be the most professional group of slacker-ass stoney drunks that you've never seen," according to their MySpace page. After playing in bands around the area, singer Dave Rothe, guitarist Tommy Slade, bassist Mike Fratone and drummer Frank Meza connected in early 2005, and began writing songs about drinking, smoking up and having a good time. Their 12-song debut LP, Two Steps Back, was due this spring, but Slade recently left the group, meaning the album's release date is up in the air.
"We are beyond stoked," Rothe said in February. "It's going to have 12 tracks on it. It's our first full length. It was tough to pick only 12 songs because we've got a lot material and we didn't want to leave anything out."
