Artist of the day: Caleb Hyers Band
Caleb Hyers Band produces a jammy, funky, jazzy style of pop-rock in the vein of John Mayer and the Dave Matthews Band -- and in the case of the song The Fight, even a little Fleet Foxes.
Along with Albert Warren on drums and Andrew Warren on bass, Hyers is working on his debut full-length album, which may contain songs from something he's calling "The Bachelor Challenge," during which he'll write a song a week until he gets married at the end of July.
But his music is only one reason Hyers is an artist worth watching. The video above is for a charitable effort that Hyers is calling The Joplin Project, in response to the tornadoes that devastated Joplin, Mo., this spring. Through Element Church in Tampa, he's asking for donations from listeners, and giving away T-shirts in the process. If he's able to raise $10,000, he'll let the largest donor pick a tattoo that he'll get inked on his leg. If he gets $20,000, he'll shave his head and donate his long, curly hair to Locks of Love. On Friday, Caleb Hyers Band will be performing at Lithia's Park Square Cellars at 8 p.m. Click here for details.
