Artist of the day: Chromatic Flights

Ah, Kyle Wyss. When he's not busy wowing Kanye West, appearing in Spin or trying to write the official city song of St. Petersburg, he's finding time to record music for his solo side project, Chromatic Flights.

Wyss is one half of St. Pete's acclaimed indie upstarts Blind Man's Colour, and a sophomore at Florida Gulf Coast University. Chromatic Flights offers a very BMC-esque sound, which is to say the Animal Collective influence is still strong. The sound is still synth-jazzy and liquidic, with a few chill beats thrown in for good measure.

I Guess I'm Floating, which has been on board the BMC train since the get-go, is digging Chromatic Flights, too. "CF's songs tend to have the perfect amount of meandering melodies and interactivity," writes IGIF. When a big national music blog is a fan, that's probably a good thing.
