Artist of the day: Crossbreed

(This week, in celebration of Metallica's concert Saturday at the St. Pete Times Forum, we're taking a look at some of Tampa Bay's top metal bands. Today: Crossbreed.)

Clearwater industrial outfit Crossbreed flirted with national fame when its techno-tinged, 2001 album Synthetic Division came out on Artemis Records (Steve Earle, Warren Zevon, Pretenders). But its major-label debut was met with mixed reviews and mediocre sales, and the band got dropped before releasing a follow-up.

Now signed to Driven Music Group (former Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch), the group remains active -- both performing and with their Clearwater recording studio The Candy Factory -- and its new album KE101, released last month, is out on iTunes and in stores now. It's worth picking up just to hear the industrial cover of Stevie Wonder's Superstition, which would be perfect for your next Halloween party.
