Artist of the day: Danny Leggett

Orlando Calling might be the biggest new music festival in Florida, but organizers aren’t overlooking the little guys. There are plenty of talented Orlando groups lined up to perform Saturday and Sunday at the Citrus Bowl. We’re spotlighting a few of them all week. Today: Danny Leggett.

With his folksy guitar and shuffling, world-weary voice, Orlando singer-songwriter Danny Leggett has more than a few things in common with some of the other shaggy bards on the Orlando Calling bill, including Pete Yorn and Iron and Wine’s Sam Beam.

On Leggett’s EP New Year’s Eve P, he channels Sufjan Stevens through his lonesome banjo, but he’s also capable of turning out an Avett Brothers-style hoedown — just check out his bluegrass cover of La Roux’s Bulletproof, above.

Leggett performs at 12:35 p.m. Sunday on Stage 4. Click here to download New Year’s Eve P, and get a free, fifth song.
