Artist of the day: D.Cot
D.Cot is Dinah Gomez, a Christian rapper and singer from Tampa. She ministers at churches around the area, working with artists like Urban D and Hazakim. In the past few years, she has released an album called Life Application, a group formed with her brother called Cord of Three (the “Cot” in “D.Cot”; and is working on her first solo album, We Meet at the PRAYground, due for release in June.
Gomez suffers from a condition called medullary sponge kidney disease, which results in numerous kidney and bladder infections. On Saturday, her church, Salem Baptist Church in Tampa, is organizing a benefit concert that will double as a release show for her mixtape, Sweet Surrender, which is a smooth mix of uplifting R&B and hip hop. Proceeds from the concert and the mixtape will go toward her medical expenses. Click here for more details on the show. After that, she’s headed to New York for more fundraising and promotion at churches in Manhattan and the Bronx.
The event is 7 p.m. Saturday at Salem Baptist Church, 1712 E Busch Blvd., Tampa. Admission is $5. For more on D.Cot’s Sweet Surrender mixtape, click here.
