Artist of the day: Dead Cat Lounge

Is it a conflict of interest to play both the Warped Tour and the Antiwarpt Festival?

Not if you're Dead Cat Lounge. Well, sort of.

The hardcore punk group have been Tampa Bay favorites for some time, with snarky blasts of angsty, political old-school punk. How can you not love a group with a song called Barbara's Bush?

Remember Sarah Saturday, the singer-songwriter behind Gardening Not Architecture? She's from St. Petersburg, and she founded something called the EIY (Earn It Yourself) Movement. And in a report from an EIY show from her hometown, she wrote of Dead Cat Lounge:

There aren’t many great, true underground punk bands like this anymore. And I don’t mean mohawks and patches; I mean honest dudes with a punk philosophy, singing songs about real issues, and putting on a super fun show while a bunch of their friends get sloppy drunk and slow-skank in the moshpit. At one point, the guitarist was playing his guitar with a fire extinguisher. I LOVE IT SO MUCH!

Us too. Dead Cat Lounge was all set to stick it to the man by playing both the Warped Tour and Antiwarpt Festival, but they can't make the latter. So instead, check them out Sunday, when they play the Warped Tour in St. Pete. Click here for more upcoming shows. And download a free EP from the band here.
