Artist of the day: In December We Fall
St. Petersburg hardcore band In December We Fall sums up their sound in one word: "Douchecore."
"The term comes from a late-night brainstorming session between Tanner (Sturgill, guitars) and I during an episode of MTV's Jersey Shore, so I guess you could say we were 'inspired'," said singer Richie Parrey. "Thus a new genre was born."
The band of high schoolers -- including a couple of IB students -- all have a sense of humor about their music, as evidenced by song titles like Tiger Woods Is What He Eats, Polyrhythmic Elephant Disco and 9 Iron Beatdown.
That's not to sell short the band's musical chops, though. The aforementioned Polyrhythmic Elephant Disco is a wicked blend of death metal, math rock and New Wave Goth.
You can check out In December We Fall -- Parrey, Sturgill, Jeremy Steiner (drums), Eric Hendrickson (bass), Miles Postlethwait (guitar) and John Hadden (keyboards) -- this weekend, when they participate in the finals of the Gorilla Music Finals Battle of the Bands, along side Sledgegrinder, Fear of Flying, Process of Death and more. The show begins at 5 p.m.; tickets are $8-$10. Click here for details.
