Born and raised in Tampa, DJ Christion has made a name for himself in the Florida hip-hop scene, as well as around the world, touring with hip-hop heavyweight Fat Joe, above right, and Terror Squad.

But he's still happy to hold it down for his home city.

"I guess it’s like the old saying: There’s no place like home," said Christion. "I can definitely say I’ll never move anywhere out of Florida. I love the atmosphere, the people, the vibe, the sunshine, the beaches."

Locally, his claims to fame include weekend stints spinning at Club Skye and Mondays at the Kennedy in Tampa. He also co-hosts the Sunday Night Bomb from 8 to 11 p.m. Sundays on Wid 94.1."As long as you lock down your home city — clubwise, radiowise — you’re straight," said DJ Christion. "Touring on top of that is even better."

But in the Tampa club scene, he might be best known for DJ Christion's Birthday Bash, annually one of the hottest hip-hop parties in town. It started out five years ago as a way to get his name out there -- "kind of an I-run-this-city type of thing," he said -- but has grown into something of an all-star hip-hop jam session.

Past guests include Flo Rida, Pitbull, Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Bubba Sparxxx and of course Fat Joe. Everyone usually gets up on stage and performs some of their hits. Someone usually makes it rain. Check out our review of last year's Birthday Bash, which featured Ace Hood, Dorrough and more.

This year's Birthday Bash is set for Thursday at Club Skye, 1509 E Eighth Ave., Ybor City. Tickets are $15-$25, and the lineup tentatively includes Flo Rida, Fat Joe, Trick Daddy, DJ Khaled, Ace Hood, DJ Drama, Cool & Dre and a couple of surprise guests.

"It's the biggest party of the year five years running," he said. "You never know who’s going to be there. It really is the place to be. It’s an event now. People come to expect it."
