Artist of the day: DJ M-Squared
There’s a reality TV competition for everything. Case in point: Master of the Mix, BET’s “next top DJ” contest.
The second season kicked off in November, and we’re now down to the final three. And wouldn’t you know it? One of them is from Central Florida.
Michael McPherson, a.k.a. DJ M-Squared, calls Brooklyn his home, but he grew up in the Orlando area and graduated from Florida Atlantic University. Since then, he’s gone on to spin before more than 12,000 people at South by Southwest, toured with Kelly Rowland and manned decks all over the country. A fan of DJ Jazzy Jeff, he says his specialty is his “ability to blur genre lines and create an unforgettable emotional connection with my audience,” according to a release from BET. “My specialty is in designing the mood.”
Master of the Mix, which rates contestants on “technical ability, track selection, originality and crowd response,” aired its final challenge over the weekend. Now it’s time to vote for your favorite. Voting continues through 12:30 a.m. tonight; the winner will be announced during a finale event on Saturday.
