Artist of the day: DOCO
When John Santoro was looking to reopen the Amphitheatre in Ybor City, he wanted to seek out some of Tampa’s hottest DJs to serve as his residents. “I felt that DOCO was the hottest electronic artist,” he said. “He’s hands-down the best in the city.”
The Chicago-born DOCO, a.k.a. Donovan Coley Jr., is a producer and songwriter who has worked with a host of big-name DJs over the years. He just released a new EP, In The Sky, though you may have heard his single Bathing Suit, featuring Jules Vegas.
He got into DJ’ing a few years ago and has become a staple at venues like the Bulls Club, Hyde Park Cafe and the Amphitheatre, where he mans AMP!D Saturdays.
“He does a lot of his own remixes too, on a lot of songs that are real popular out there,” Santoro said. “He’s clean. The music selection he has is really clean. His mixes are clean, and he has a lot of attention to detail, which really impresses me. He’ll spend a lot of time on set selections every single week.”
On Saturday, DOCO will perform at the Sunset Music Festival at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. Click here for details.
