Artist of the day: The Dreadful Snakes
WMNF’s Gram Parsons tribute on Saturday needed a bit of bluegrass bite, so they turned to Lakeland’s Dreadful Snakes.
The five-piece Americana group — guitarists Charlie Boone and Lucien Tender, bassist Cheri Hornsby, mandolin player John Short and banjoist Ken Bailey — arose from local jam sessions and perform a modern take on old-school music, from traditional bluegrass hoedowns to covers of groups like the Decemberists. But the traditional ethos is strong. “All the songs on our site are live playing! No studio mixing here!” they say on their website.
The Dreadful Snakes will perform at Saturday’s Parsons tribute, which kicks off at 6 p.m. Saturday at Skipper’s Smokehouse. Tickets are $10-$13. Click here.
