Artist of the day: Earth Bombs Mars

Track 8 of Earth Bombs Mars' self-titled 2008 album is titled Mystic Jam. That’s a pretty accurate summary of the band, too.

Rich Whiteley (vocals), John Zias (guitar), Dan DeGregory (drums) and T.J. Glowacki (bass) specialize in free-flowing, spaced-out jazz-rock with a particularly Southern flavor. Members have played with and for artists like Phil Lesh, Bo Diddley, Rock Bottom, Tiny Tim and Webbed Feet.

Whiteley, Zias and DeGregory also play in the popular local Grateful Dead cover band Uncle John's Band, "and we also play in other projects," Whiteley said, "which keeps the rust off."

Earth Bombs Mars have been playing more private parties of late, but you can catch them at the Dunedin Brewery on April 18. In the meantime, click here to listen to an mp3 of their track Stargazer -- as well as a bonus cut, Whiteley's Sunny Delight, from the BAAMO Tales of Lust and Longing compilation CD.
