Artist of the day: Elysian Sex Drive

The artsy, empowered women (and one guy) of Elysian Sex Drive offer an amalgam of styles (rock, pop, blues, funk, world beat, electronic). But it's their lovelorn strumming that has us thinking they'd fall somewhere between 10,000 Maniacs and Sophie B. Hawkins (for whom they opened in 2011). Regulars on the Pride event circuit in Tampa Bay, they like to "retain a little sanity in a world gone mad," they say. They also enjoy good wordplay.

This week, you'll have a couple of chances to catch Elysian Sex Drive around Tampa Bay. On Thursday, they'll be playing with the Sexual Side Effects, the Proper Crooks and more at 8 p.m. at the Local 662 in St. Pete. Cover is $6. Click here for details.

Then on Saturday, they'll be part of the music portion of the Harvey Milk Festival, celebrating art, film and music in Sarasota. Look for them in downtown Sarasota at 6 p.m. Click here for more info on the festival.
