Artist of the day: Enzo
Tampa rapper/remixer Enzo has stirred up a little bit of love online with an unconventional, unapologetically pop-oriented approach to hip-hop. One blogger said he "spits just like Kid Cudi." But to hear him tell it, he'd like to be a mashup of Tupac and Lupe.
"Tupac Shakur and Lupe Fiasco are by far my favorite emcees and serve as major influences in my work," said Enzo. "Tupac for his rebelliousness as well as his courage to stand up for what he believed in and his ability to incorporate that into song. Lupe for his overall skill with painting such vivid mental images with his music."
He's working on his debut EP, A Spotless Mind, which he hopes to have available soon. One thing's for sure: His sound is sleek and creative, more Basiqs than Tampa Jook, and he could be a real player to watch on the Tampa hip-hop scene.
"I like to look at the musicians of today as the voices of our generation," he said. "Ten or twenty years from now when we're listening back on the music of today, who will stand out, who will really have had an impact on the culture, and who will have wound up a passing trend? I like to think that I will be included in that list of standout artists someday. But as of now, I have a lot more work to do."
