Artist of the day: Florida Boychoir
A few years ago, if you attended the Florida Orchestra's performance of Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings score, one of the vocal groups you saw was the Florida Boychoir.
Off and on since the '80s, the nonprofit Christian cultural youth chorus has performed around Tampa Bay, Florida and the country, in churches and with symphonies. Joining the choir is a serious, competitive process, but the rewards are big -- the Boychoir has toured Europe and will do so again this summer.
This month, the boychoir will stage a spring concert at 7:30 p.m. May 23 at the United Methodist Church of Sun City Center. Admission is $10. Click here for details.
This year, they spawned offshoots for even younger singers, the Tampa Boychoir and the St. Petersburg Boychoir. In 2006, Andrew Meacham profiled Florida Boychoir founder Brian Collar. Click here to read it.
