Artist of the day: Frank Parsons' BIG Band

Here in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, we have the Florida Orchestra, the Tampa Bay Symphony, Helios Jazz Orchestra and any number of additional big band options.

Way up in Pasco County, and even the uppermost reaches of North Pinellas County, that's not the case.

Thankfully, they have Frank Parsons' BIG Band.

For 17 years, the New Port Richey big band -- which includes 18 pieces, including trumpets, saxes, trombones, bass, drums, piano and a singer -- has been entertaining folks at the Richey Suncoast Theatre. In his 80th year, Parsons, above, selects the band's arrangements, and they perform once a month during their regular season, offering up shows with themes like Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Glenn Miller.

On Wednesday, the band will perform "Ho Ho the Holidays," a Christmas concert at the Richey Suncoast Theatre, 6237 Grand Boulevard, New Port Richey. The show is at 2 p.m. Individual tickets are $11. Click here for details and the BIG Band's complete upcoming schedule.
