Artist of the day: Frankie Raye
Tampa singer-songwriter Frankie Raye has taken her music all across the state, performing a mixture of original pop songs and covers. Influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell, Ingrid Michaelson, Daphne Willis and even Tampa Bay's own Geri X, she says she's working on her debut CD. And though she's been trained in the theater, the Ohio native says her music is much more serene than most Broadway fare.
"I would describe my sound as happy, meaningful and something like an early Sunday morning in the mountains, relaxed and content," she says.
On Saturday, you can look for Raye at the Sarasota Songwriters Festival, starting at 5 p.m. at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron, 1717 Ken Thompson Parkway. Click here for details.
