Artist of the day: Free Range Roosters
Rootsy, freewheeling Americana is the name of the game for the Free Range Roosters, a collective of blues- and bluegrass-loving musicians from around Tampa Bay.
With an eclectic array of guitars, fiddles, harmonicas and mandolins, the group cites influences like Dylan, Waits and Cash. "Folk with attitude," they call it. They came together through shared musical tastes, especially through jams at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, during festivals like Suwannee Springfest and Magnolia Project. They still play in a lot of open jams around Tampa Bay.
If you're in the mood for a hoedown, check out the Free Range Roosters at one of their upcoming shows: 8 p.m. Friday at Heather's Place in Safety Harbor (click here for details), or at the Humdinger Music and Arts Festival from noon to midnight March 19 at the Blueberry Patch in Gulfport. There's a $10 donation at the door; click here for details. And in May, they'll be jamming at the Orange Blossom Jamboree at Sertoma Youth Ranch in Brooksville.
