Artist of the day: Gregory Smith
Okay, that's not Gregory Smith conducting the Florida Orchestra in the photo above. It's Tampa Bay Lightning coach Guy Boucher, filming an appearance in a video for Be The Thunder, which is the team's theme song for the 2011-12 season.
Be The Thunder was written by Smith, left, a Los Angeles composer who has written music for many sports entities, including the theme music for college football on ESPN/ABC and the theme song of the New York Mets in 1986 when the team won the World Series.
He thinks his new collaboration with the Lightning is a good fit.
"They're definitely juxtaposing the two ingredients, the hockey team and the symphony orchestra, which I think is amazing," he said. "When you take a hockey team and have them dance with an orchestra, which this project does, I think it takes it to a real accessible place. I hope to God I see a cellist with a goalie mask somewhere."
