Artist of the day: Heights NS

Is Heights NS a rapper? A rock singer? A guitarist? A producer?

Answer: All of the above, and then some.

The Odessa multihyphenate has been selling beats online since 2005, and can throw down a few rhymes in the vein of N.E.R.D. or Shabazz Palaces (see: Yeah, Well or Hold On). But his sound is really more geared toward fuzzy alternative and indie rock with shoegaze touches. With his experimental bent and singing voice, his music sounds like TV on the Radio. It is, as his bio puts it, “an amalgam of blistering chords, heavy fuzz, infectious harmonies and keyboard catastrophies. This is all held together with deep tight beats and arrangements straight from crazytown.”

Performing with a full band, Heights NS will open for 3rd Stone at 9 p.m. Saturday at New World Brewery. Tickets are $8. Click here for details. And for more Heights NS, click here to download a free EP.
