Artist of the day: Holes and Hearts
It’s a bit strange hearing 11-year-old Riley James (lead vocals, keyboard, guitar) and his 12-year-old brother, Casey Charles (lead guitar, vocals), perform original, angst-ridden heavy rock that recalls vintage grunge. But the boys of Holes and Hearts pull it off.
The band's name comes from the fact that Riley was born with a hole in his heart, and he went through two heart surgeries by 10 months of age. Today the boys play a lot of charity shows, including several for hospitals.
In April, the brothers signed with L.A. label Mongrel Records, which will release their 13-track self-titled debut CD next week. On Saturday, Holes and Hearts will hold a free CD release party at 8 p.m. at the L.A. Hangout, 16411 N Florida Ave., Lutz. The'll also be playing at Taste of Pinellas on May 31.
