Artist of the day: The Human Condition
Fresh from another trip to South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, this Bradenton band has long been a local favorite. Singer-songwriter-guitarist Dean Johanesen, bassist Mark Pezzo, guitarist Dave Berry, keyboardist Raphael Aquino and drummer Mike Garrie are frequent performers around the area, and have opened for the likes of Donavon Frankenreiter and Martha Wainwright.
The acoustic-leaning group performs tunes in the vein of Ben Harper, Led Zeppelin and Radiohead -- which is to say they're a diverse lot. Their melodies are too textured and luminous and, well, human, to dismiss as generic. And they've got other big doings a-transpirin' this spring.
First up is a new album, a six-song disc titled Live at Zen, that was released in March. And two of their older songs, Godspeed and Last Dance, were selected for use in a movie called Beautiful Noise that was recently filmed in Sarasota. "I have been working with the director on scoring for the film as well," Johanesen said.
And next up is a series of shows. Look for The Human Condition at Dunedin Brewery on Friday (4/15). And in May, they'll be at the annual Orange Blossom Jamboree at Sertoma Youth Ranch. Click here for details on their upcoming shows.
