Artist of the day: The Hysterics

The Hysterics comprises private school boys with an indie-rock beat. The Tampa-based band and has been grabbing the open mike to the delight of audiences. With college nearing and their first EP in sight, bassist Mike Merritt said the band's influences are more classic rock than modern indie -- although they're not opposed to potentially covering Modest Mouse's Dashboard in the near future.

"Without a question, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers," Merritt said when asked about influences. "Some other bands include Wolfmother, the Killers, U2 and Counting Crows."

The high school band's full lineup includes Drew Alexander, lead guitar; Michael Valdez, vocals/guitar; Merritt, vocals/bass; and Patrick Alexander, drums.
