Artist of the day: Jermaine

By the time he was six years old, St. Petersburg native Jermaine Tindell was leading songs in his youth choir. It was the same year he found out that he had sickle cell anemia.

“It’s in my DNA,” said Tindell, 29. “My mom said I was singing around the house as an infant.”

Thursday will be a huge day for Tindell, 29, as he launches his first album, All I Want is U, here in America, and throws a benefit concert  at Jannus Live in St. Pete. Tickets are $10-$15; other artists on the bill include Cloud 9 and Da Unknown Poet. Click here for details on the show.

The concert doubles as a fundraiser as 60 percent of ticket sales will benefit Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (St. Petersburg chapter), Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Lupus Foundation of Florida and the St. Petersburg Police Department’s Fallen Officers Fund of 2011.
