Artist of the day: Joon

Popular Lakeland synth-pop duo Joon — John Crayon and Shayne Soderstrom; the so-called member "Electricity" listed on their MySpace page is a bit of a joke — released a trippy, loopy and altogether fun LP, The Uncanny Valley, in 2008, and are currently wrapping up a second album.

"We've been in the process of recording this album for quite some time now," said Crayon, who recently finished his Master's degree in American Studies at USF. "This has been a busy year for us, so we've only been able to focus on the material intermittently."
The band recently partnered with the Florida Dance Theatre to create a suite titled "Opportunity Costs" that debuted a few weeks ago at the Polk Theatre in Lakeland -- they performed live onstage, and the dancers choreographed a routine around their music.

The band is mixing their album and hope to release it early this summer. To listen to an mp3 of Joon's Post-Apocalyptic Cave-Dwelling Love Affair #5, click here.
