Artist of the day: Khora

Reggae-rock bands are a dime a dozen in Florida, but Seminole's Khora have something else going for them.

Singer-guitarist Reed Skahill, guitarist James Palmer, drummer Travis Young and bassist Taylor Gilchrist infuse their good-time jams with a little blues, a little funk, and just a hint of psychedelia, all of which helps create a sound reminiscent of two of their favorite bands, Incubus and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

This weekend, you'll have two chances to see them live. On Friday, they'll be participating in Michael Jackson night during the finals of the Ritz Ybor's monthlong battle of the bands competition, alongside Mighty Mongo, the Reverie, the Ken Apperson Band, the James-Lange Theory, Next of Kin and On Carlton Row. Tickets are $5. Click here for details.

Then, on Saturday, Khora will headline a show at the Local 662 in St. Petersburg, alongside Gates of Eden, Stalling Dawn, Anchor Atlantic and The Wanderer. Tickets are $5. Click here.
