Artist of the day: The Leigh Humes Band
All week on Soundcheck we’ll be spotlighting some of the local artists performing at this year’s Tropical Heatwave on Saturday. Today: The Leigh Humes Band.
Memphis-born folk singer Leigh Humes has written well over 100 songs, performing them with an easygoing vocal style that harks back to the classic singer-songwriters of the '70s, '80s and '90s, from Carly Simon to Mary-Chapin Carpenter. She performs all over Tampa Bay with her husband of 18 years, fellow guitarist Steve Humes, who also produced her 2009 CD Come Out of The Rain. Joining them in the Leigh Humes Band are drummer Rick Mastry (of the St. Pete dive Mastry’s) and bassist Jim Mason.
Leigh and Steve Humes have a recording studio, Pearl Court Studio, where Come Out Of The Rain was recorded, produced and mixed by the two of them. “Steve is currently wrapping up his album, to be titled Exit 32, which will hopefully be released later this year," Leigh said.
Leigh and Steve Humes will be performing at 11:35 p.m. at the Play acoustic stage during Tropical Heatwave.
