Artist of the day: Lucid Druid
The mere fact that Clearwater’s Lucid Druid performs with bagpipes and a Scottish snare would seem to make them a truly bona-fide Celtic band. But then they had to throw a didgeridoo and African djembes into the mix, and we’re out of musical descriptors.
Lucid Druid — piper Adam Quinn, bassist Joe Porter, guitarist Sebastian Deledda and percussionists Steve Turner and Doug White — play one of the most original world-music concoctions out there. From jam to trance to folk to acid jazz, it’s something you have to see to appreciate — and you should, when the band plays at Dunedin House of Beer March 19 and the Pier in St. Pete on March 20. They'll also be at Orlando's Paddy Murphy's this Saturday (March 13) if you're in the neighborhood.
Their plans this spring include mastering and recording some of their live recordings into an album, and then they hope to record their second studio album, Cernunnos.
"We would love to try to get a few out of state gigs at different festivals and spread our music around the country and beyond," Quinn said in an e-mail. "(Our sound) is quite unique and we've been very well received wherever we play. We're pretty much a home-grown group without a manager, so we take what we can get when it comes our way."
