Artist of the day: Miggs
Singer-songwriter Don Miggs is a fixture on the Tampa social scene, in part because he's married to Lisa DeBartolo, daughter of local billionaire developer (and former San Francisco 49ers owner) Eddie DeBartolo.
Being part of a billion-dollar family has its advantages. Paul Anka and Damian Rice sang at Don and Lisa's wedding. Miggs got to perform at DeBartolo's star-studded Super Bowl party in 2009. And eagle-eyed Tampa Bay Rays fans may have spotted gigantic ads for Miggs' band during games last year at Tropicana Field. (Seriously. We've posted a pic after the jump.)
All of this, of course, is to take nothing away from Miggs' musical accomplishments. His band, Miggs (including Michael Lombardo on bass and Ryan Scarbrough on drums) produces a very polished, very catchy style of pop rock, a la Tonic or the Goo Goo Dolls.
Miggs' new album, Wide Awake, was helmed by noted producer Ken Lewis (Lenny Kravitz, Kanye West, Usher), and the good news keeps coming for the band. They've performed on Good Morning America (click here to watch) and are tentatively planning a slot on The Today Show for July.
Wide Awake dropped today, and the group is gearing up for a national tour to support it. On Friday, you can catch Miggs at Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa, alongside Plain Jane Automobile, Mogul Street Reserve and Amy Lennard. Tickets are $10-$13. Click here for details.
Below, check out the first single from the album, Girls and Boys. And after the jump, get a glimpse of Miggs' eye-catching Tropicana Field ad...
