Artist of the day: New Roman Times

New Roman Times may hail from Austin, Texas, but they've got strong Tampa Bay ties. They're signed to Tampa institution New Granada Records, home to King of Spain, the Dark Romantics and Sunbears!, among others.

Founded in Orlando by current husband and wife Daniel Owens (guitar and vocals) and Josie Fluri (bass and vocals), the band now includes Mike Allen on drums and Harris Thurmond on guitar and synths.

Over the years they've opened for Death Cab For Cutie and Cursive, among others, and are veterans of South by Southwest. Their sound is a pulsating blend of indieish post-punk and new wave, calling to mind Interpol minus the mope

New Roman Times will play with the Beauvilles and Mouse Fire on Saturday (12/12) at New World Brewery in Ybor City. The show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $7. Click here for details.
