Artist of the day: One Way!
If you were at the 2010 Vans Warped Tour stop at Vinoy Park in St. Pete, you may have spotted a feisty, not-so-little ska band from Clearwater called One Way!
The five-piece (but formerly seven-piece) ska-punk band blends sloppy horns with a heavy, old-school skate-punk sound, a little like the Ataris or early Alkaline Trio or MXPX. It's a combo that won them a spot on Warped's Ernie Ball Stage for local bands.
Cody Unangst (vocals/bass), Matt Tartaglia (guitar/vocals), James Williams (drums), Eric Lopaciuk (horns) Jesse Lebhar (tenor sax) got to talk to members of Four Year Strong and Set Your Goals during their Warped Tour stop; overall, Lebhar described the show as "hot, fun and sweaty."
"We were rushed and it rained most of the day, but we made it happen and had a great time," he said. "My saxophone broke right before we went on, but we didn't let it ruin our set and gave it our all. ... We didn't really sell much, to be honest, but it doesn't really matter. Warped was a great chance for exposure, and that in itself made it worth it. And getting into the show for free."
Check them out at 7 p.m. Saturday, when they play with Johnny Unite Us and Hero Of Our Time at Neptune Lounge, 13 S Safford Ave. in Tarpon Springs. Click here for details.
