Artist of the day: Orange Hour

In only a year, Clearwater jam-rockers Orange Hour — singer/guitarist Darrell Bevins, guitarist Hugh Newmark, bassist Taylor Gilchrist and drummer Nicholas Pelley — have racked up some impressive gigs. Thanks to their easy-on-the-ears breed of jammy, late-’90s-ish pop rock, they’ve landed gigs playing with the Duhks and Days of the New, and have performed at side stages at Ruth Eckerd Hall before concerts by Steve Miller Band and Crosby, Stills and Nash.

"We seem to be getting on more and more bigger shows," said Pelley. "It starts by at first just knowing the right people, but now the story is people liking our sound a lot and wanting to book people. It’s crazy how you meet people and grow as a band."

Next week, they’re gearing up for what Pelley feels is their biggest gig to date, an opening slot for Badfish: A Tribute To Sublime. That show is at 7 p.m. March 18 at the State Theatre. Tickets are $18.
