Artist of the day: The Outpatients

The '90s have been back in fashion for a while now in Tampa Bay -- just ask the Hazies -- so it's no surprise Clearwater group the Outpatients are making a comeback.

The band -- guitarist Pat Edwards, singer Ken Jewell, drummer Jim Wasenda, bassist Chris Edwards and guitarist Steve McNulty -- has influences ranging from R.E.M. to U2 to Big Head Todd and the Monsters. They formed in high school and played throughout the '90s in bars around Tampa Bay before switching lineups and ultimately taking an extended break. They returned for a one-time-only reunion in 2007, but you know how one-time-only reunions go. They ended up reforming for good in 2010.

On Friday, the Outpatients will perform at the World of Beer in Westchase from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Expect a crowd -- as McNulty says, they've "developed a very large following over the years." Click here for details.
