Artist of the day: Palantine
In 2007, tbt* called Palantine’s release party for their self-titled LP “one of the local music events of the year.” So does that mean the release party for their latest album, Bruise Your Illusion, is one of the must-see local events of 2012?
Bruise Your Illusion sounds just like the title implies, a gut-punch of grungy distortion and fierce rawk ‘n’ roll in the vein of Queens of the Stone Age or Foo Fighters. It is undeniably heavy yet heady, with moments that are as catchy and melodic (Axe to Grind) as they are, well, bruising (Common Curse). Curiously, the band says Bruise Your Illusion marks the first time all three members — singer Vinnie Cosentino, bassist Brian David Johnson and drummer Jeff Fox — worked together on one disc. Previously, Cosentino had written and recorded everything on his own; this time, though the group collaborated via email and in the studio.
