Artist of the day: The Pinata Hearts
The Pinata Hearts were founded in Tampa in 2005, but in 2006 they moved to the Twin Cities in Minnesota. But founders allison Achterkirch (vocals, piano) and Chris Lunceford (vocals, guitar) have continued to play both markets, with drummer Brian Dwinal and bassist Johnny O rounding out the group in Minnesota. The group plays piano-based indie rock influenced by the likes of Yo La Tengo, Guided By Voices and the Kinks.
On Dec. 23, the Pinata Hearts will be part of a kid-friendly show at Skipper's Smokehouse. "For The Kids Too" will also feature Rebekah Pulley and the Reluctant Prophets, Dean Johanesen and Will Erickson and the Wreckage. The show is at 5 p.m.; tickets are a suggested $10 donation, and kids under 10 get in free. Click here for details.
