Artist of the day: Pitbull Toddler
Mike "Cowhead" Calta is one of the biggest forces in Tampa Bay radio, with his celebrity connections and drive-time slot on 102.5-The Bone. But in the past couple of years, he's also become an in-demand musician with his rock band, Pitbull Toddler.
Cowhead (second from right) plays bass in the group, which also includes The Bone crewmate Galvin on drums, John Brennan and Pete Larios on guitar and Josh Maloney on vocals. The group has played countless benefits around town with groups like the Greg Billings Band.
"This thing is ridiculous," he said recently. "What started out as, 'Hey, we should do this,' has turned into almost a part-time job. We're booked through the end of the year. We're in high demand, and I've had to tone it back because between work and the band I'm not getting to see my son much."
On Friday, though, Pitbull Toddler's show is all about Cowhead. The host turned 40 this week, and he's celebrating with a big bash at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The party starts at 9 p.m. at the Hard Rock Cafe, 5223 N Orient Road, Tampa. Admission is free before midnight.
