Artist of the day: Plain Jane Automobile
Let's not go crazy, here. But then again, some increasingly influential media outlets are starting to do just that over the alt-pop-rock quartet. In May, the New York Daily News reviewed a show and asked, "Was that U2 playing at Bowery Electric last night? If you closed your eyes, you would have thought so." They've also been played by Nic Harcourt on L.A.'s KCRW.
The group -- singer-guitarist Duke Crider, guitarist-keyboardist Luis Mejia, bassist Paul McCorkell and drummer James Dickens -- have been furiously plugging away at the Central Florida scene since before 2006, when they signed with an agency and toured with the likes of Stereophonics, MuteMath and Plain White T's. Indeed, their soaring, polished alt-rock sound does call to mind Britpop artists like Doves and Coldplay -- and, it must be said, Every Dirty Hand might as well be a B-side from Achtung Baby.
