Artist of the day: Plains

A slew of notable indie rock artists with Floridian roots have emerged in recent years -- Sleigh Bells, Twin Shadow, Surfer Blood, SUNBEARS!, Jacuzzi Boys. Are Plains next?

The Miami indie rock outfit led by singer/guitarist/do-everything-guy Michael McGinnis made "best-of" lists around Florida for their 2011 self-titled album. It's a collection of throwback '90s fuzz-pop tailor-made for fans of the Pixies, Urge Overkill and Yo La Tengo. (It's surely no accident that this week, they opened for Sebadoh in Miami.) Jorge Gonzalez Graupera, Max Johnston and Jorge Rubiera round out the group -- and interestingly, Graupera and Rubiera directed the video for Black Feeling.

On Saturday, Plains will make their debut in Tampa, with a gig alongside Zulu Wave and the Dags at New World Brewery. Tickets are $7. Click here for more info on the show.
