Artist of the day: Rec Center

Husband-and-wife duo Keith and Susie Ulrey (formerly of Pohgoh and Maccabees, currently of local label New Granada) brought in guitarist Michael Waksman (Zillionaire, Chester and the Washdown) and bassist Brian Roberts (Hankshaw, Redhands, Murder-Suicide Pact) to form Rec Center, a scene-vet supergroup, blending light acoustic pop with warm keyboards and vocals.

Susie (above, with Waksman) was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2001, but said her MS has been in remission for three years, and the band has continued to perform all over. In March, they were part of New Granada's official South by Southwest showcase in Austin, Texas. The band plans to record a full-length album in the near future. And on Friday, they're playing at New World Brewery with Hankshaw, Zillionaire and King of Spain
