Artist of the day: Rekless
Owing to a DJ'ing dad and a musically inclined mom, St. Pete's Rekless (or Namreh McGee) grew up in a household well-stocked with funk, R&B, disco, pop and hip-hop records. After graduating from high school, Rekless got his first credit card, and by the transitive hip-hop property, his first drum machine. Soon his local group was opening for The Fugees, Ying Yang Twins and The Lost Boyz, to name a few.
These days, Rekless spends his nights and weekends as a lyricist, beat-maker, producer and performer, putting out meaningful music with spiritual nuances, Nas-style swagger and a Redman-like playfulness. See him at Clearwater bars like Gasoline Alley or The Banana Boat on Sunday nights.
Rekless just released a new EP, By Nightfall -- click here to check it out on iTunes. On Saturday, Rekless will be performing along with Eddie P, Free Lunch Boyz and Jermaine at the Orpheum in Ybor City. Tickets are $12. Click here for details.
