Artist of the day: Renee Proffitt
Formerly a member of Old North East, acoustic singer-guitarist Renee Proffitt is a regular at low-key singer-songwriter hangouts like the Hideaway Cafe, and with good reason -- her ethereal voice and bouncy, beautiful folk tunes call to mind Rosie Thomas or Eva Cassidy.
Along with drummer David Daniels (formerly of 10th Concession), Proffitt sings her own songs, and has performed on WTSP-Ch. 10's Studio 10, and on Nov. 5 she'll perform at a cystic fibrosis fundraiser at the Red Rose Inn in Plant City. Before that, though, she'll perform at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at new open mic night at Ybor City's new Collage, 1701 E Eighth Ave. Jeremy Gloff is the host of the weekly event.
