Artist of the day: Rise of Athera
There once was a Tampa metal group called Adrift, which starred death-metal guitar god Jack Owen of Cannibal Corpse and Deicide.
Adrift's singer was Dean Pskowski, and their bassist was Jen Parker. And recently, Pskowski and Parker started their own new project: Rise of Athera.
Along with guitarist Dani Berrios and drummer Robert Davis Jr., Rise of Athera played their first show recently and are preparing to hit the studio for the first time.
"I’m doing the same thing vocally with Rise of Athera that I did with Adrift, with mixing the melodic and screams, but the music is going in a another direction," Pskowski said. "We have two guitar players, use some keyboard samples and blend elements of alternative, hard rock and metal. We do a Depeche Mode cover of Policy of Truth ( with a hint of metal ) in the set so we are having a lot of fun in the ROA camp."
You can check out Rise of Athera on April 9 alongside I and I, Lo and 13 Below at Crowbar in Ybor City. Tickets are $6-$8. Click here for details.
