Artist of the day: The Rival Within

The Rival Within is a teenage metalcore group made up of four teens and one pre-teen: singer Matt Saunders (age 16), guitarists Kyle Gray (16) and Shawn Grantham (16), bassist Brandon Klase (17) and drummer Ian Gray (12). Their sludgy, throat-ripping sound is far beyond their years, and they’ve already played hardcore metal hangouts like The Brass Mug. In a town like Tampa, they’re sure to go far.

"It’s original, not that repetitive sounding metal with the blasting drums and super-fast guitars," said Klase. "We take our time to harmonize every instrument and to make our music the best that we can."
