Artist of the day: Rob Tyre

Bluesy singer-songwriter Rob Tyre has been a mainstay of the Tampa Bay music scene for years, performing at bars, clubs, festivals and even arenas alongside the likes of James Taylor and the Beach Boys.

He's been recording in New York and Nashville for years. "Never had a hit single," he says, "so I find it easy to live here when not touring because of all the live music clubs." That includes Ringside Cafe in St. Petersburg on most Tuesday nights (although this coming Tuesday, Jan. 18, you can find him at Skipper's Smokehouse, alongside Nic Cowan and Shaun Hopper. Click here for details.)

A producer and prodigious talent on the slide guitar, Tyre has released five albums, of the gritty-jammy-country-blues variety. On Friday, Tyre will perform a free showcase at the Hideaway Cafe in St. Petersburg, alongside A.J. Swearingen. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. Click here for details.
