Artist of the day: The Sara Rose Band
Skipper’s Smokehouse is not only a fine live music venue — it occasionally gives musicians a job.
Case in point: Sara Hagan, a server at Skipper’s who also works in the office. She’s also a singer who collaborated with Uncle John’s Band on Great Gig In The Sky during a Pink Floyd tribute show a few years back. After that, Hagan and some other employee/musicians at Skipper’s got together as the Sara Rose Band, which also features bassist Michael Hoag, guitarist Mark Warren, pedal guitarist David Lane and drummer Ken Bailey. They play throwback country with touches of rockabilly, including songs by the likes of Loretta Lynn, Dwight Yoakam and George Jones.
That makes them a great choice to perform at WMNF’s upcoming Gram Parsons tribute on Saturday. The Sara Rose Band will take the stage along with artists like Have Gun, Will Travel; Steve Vaclavik and the Woeful Ones; Al Torchia and the Tattered Saints and others to perform tracks by the Americana icon. Tickets are $10-$13. Click here for details.
