Artist of the day: Seven Years Past
It never hurts to have friends in high places. Sarasota's Seven Years Past is managed by Brenda Johnson, the wife of AC/DC's Brian Johnson, who lives in Sarasota. And it's helped them land some high-profile gigs, such as a tour with Tantric.
But that's not the only reason to pay attention to the group. The female-fronted four-piece -- singer Lisa Larkin, guitarist Mark Medeiros, drummer Brett Jones and bassist Bret Calltharp -- have a lot in common with Tampa's own Automatic Loveletter. Larkin's big voice is the driving force behind the band's CD 24 Days in May, which was recorded in California with producer Sylvia Massy (Tool, Sevendust, Johnny Cash).
They've landed gigs performing at places like the 1-800-ASK-GARY Amphitheatre, USF Sun Dome and Jannus Live, opening for acts like Rob Zombie, Three Doors Down, Breaking Benjamin, Puddle of Mudd and more.
For an out-of-town band, Seven Years Past had a solid showing in this year's 97X Next Big Thing 10 Local Band search, which pitted bands against one another for a shot at one of two opening slots at this year's 97X Next Big Thing concert, Sunday at the 1-800-ASK-GARY Amphitheatre.
For something a little lower-key, check 'em out at Durty Nelly's in St. Pete on Dec. 11, alongside Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust and others.
