Artist of the day: The Shakes Society

In 2008, after various breakups and lineup/name changes, Tampa’s long-running alt-rock-turned-ska-turned-party-music outfit The Shakes Society — vocalist Lee Scharrer, guitarist Mikey Upledger, bassist Steve Mack, drummer Michael Thompson and keyboardist Steve Grant — turned 25. And they don't seem to be slowing down,

Their career has taken the Shakes Society from Tropical Heatwave stages to venues across Europe, and they've shared the stage with folks like Bo Diddley and 10,000 Maniacs. “It’s like playing with your brothers,” Scharrer said. “A very special bond.”

At 8 p.m. Sunday, you can catch the Shakes Society at the Hub in downtown Tampa for a free show. Click here to listen to their song Threshold of Pain.
