Artist of the day: Shane Meade and the Sound
A native West Virginian, Shane Meade has the go-go-go drive of a devoted bar performer whose rootsy acoustic style and tough, well-worn voice -- hard to believe he only began playing in 2000 -- serve him well at the five or six shows he plays each week.
"It can be a little tiresome, especially on the vocals, but it's part of the grind when you are playing like you mean it and singing like you believe it," Meade said. The band, described by Meade as a "soul-infused folk rock project," recorded a pop-rock CD, Time Waits for No One, in 2007, and are working on the follow-up, due this fall.
The 35-year-old's backing band, the Sound, consists of Jason "Fil" Page on guitars and mandolin, Brian Lane on bass and Jeff Fox on drums. On Saturday, theyr'e headlining the Square One Creative Event "La Di Da" with Rob Masten at the Ritz Ybor. The event is free.
